An Example of the Curriculum

One of our typical teachings about energy is one that I picked up from the book, "Sara, Book 1", by Esther and Jerry Hicks. It is one of the easiest analogies I've ever seen for children to grasp the concept of universal energy. In the book, Sara is befriended by a wise owl named Solomon.  Solomon teaches her that the energy all around her can be compared to the plumbing in one's house.  The water is always there, but one needs to turn on the faucets in order to find it.  He further explains that when Sara is feeling good, it means her faucets are open. When she is feeling grumpy, frustrated, angry, etc., it's because her faucets are closed.

I tell the children in my classes and camps that, as their instructor, it's my job to teach them how to turn on their faucets.  The children create a "Spirit Tool Box" from a cardboard shoe box in one of their first classes with me. Over time, we fill the toolbox with "tools" the children learn about or create to help them self-soothe when they are feeling like they're in a negative space.  Of course, before they can turn on their faucets, they need to be able to recognize that their faucets are turned off.  That's all part of the teaching in my programs. Children develop an awareness of self that is not taught in schools.
